RESUMO

Coherent perfect absorption (CPA) and amplification of electromagnetic waves are converse phenomena, where incoming radiations are coherently dissipated or amplified by structured incidences. Realizing such two phenomena simultaneously in a single device may benefit various applications such as biological sensing, photo detection, radar stealth, solar-thermal energy sharing, and wireless communications. However, previous experimental realizations of CPA and amplification generally require precise controls to the loss and gain of a system, making dynamic switching between the absorption and amplification states a challenge. To this end, we propose a nonlinear approach to realize CPA and parametric amplification (PA) simultaneously at the same frequency and demonstrate experimentally dynamic switch from the CPA to PA states in a judiciously designed nonlinear spoof plasmonic waveguide. The measured output signal gain can be continuously tuned from -33 dB to 22 dB in a propagation length of 9.2 wavelengths. Compared to the traditional linear CPA, our approach relaxes the stringent requirements on device dimensions and material losses, opening a new route to actively modulate the electromagnetic waves with giant amplification-to-absorption contrast in a compact platform. The proposed nonlinear plasmonic platform has potential applications in on-chip systems and wireless communications.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Trauma is statistically a significant cause of mortality among patients across countries. Nevertheless, the precise correlation between genetic diagnostic markers and the intricate mechanism of trauma remains indistinct. METHODS: Our study exclusively centered on trauma patients and selected three trauma-related datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database, all of which had blood samples collected within post-traumatic 12 h. Differential gene screening, the WGCNA and Cytoscape software were employed to analyze the two datasets, with a particular emphasis on the top 100 genes selected based on MCC algorithm scores. A logistic diagnostic model was constructed by analyzing the intersection genes in the third dataset, leading to the identification of diagnostic biomarkers with high efficiency. The global immune landscape of these patients was extensively investigated using a multidimensional approach. Meanwhile, the underlying pathological and physiological mechanisms associated with early trauma status are summarized by integrating existing literature. RESULTS: Out of these two GEO datasets, 21 overlapping genes were identified and incorporated into in the logistic diagnostic model constructed in the GSE36809 dataset. A panel of 9 genes was uncovered as a diagnostic biomarker, and their expression and correlation were subsequently verified. Additionally, by virtue of various algorithms, the findings revealed an upregulation of neutrophil expression and a downregulation of CD8+ T cell expression, indicating characteristic early trauma-induced inflammation activation and immune suppression. The correlation observed between the feature genes and immune cells serves to validate the exceptional diagnostic capability of these 9 genes in identifying trauma status and their promising potential for patients who could benefit from targeted immune interventions. Drawing from these findings, the discussion section offers insights into the underlying pathological and physiological mechanisms at play. CONCLUSION: Our research has discovered a novel diagnostic biomarker and unveiled its association with post-traumatic immune alterations. This breakthrough enables accurate and timely diagnosis of early trauma, facilitating the implementation of appropriate healthcare interventions.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: Intentional replantation (IR) is considered as a viable treatment option to preserve the teeth with apical periodontitis. This study aimed to compare the treatment outcomes of IR in teeth with or without periodontal involvement, and to investigate the influence of related factors. METHODS: A total of 157 teeth with a documented history of IR between September 2012 and November 2022 and a follow-up duration of more than 1 year were included. The samples included 100 teeth with simple apical periodontitis and 57 teeth with combined periodontal-endodontic lesions (CPEL). Clinical and radiographic criteria were used to evaluate treatment outcomes including functional retention and extraction. Chi-square analyses and Fisher's exact tests were used to compare bivariate associations between outcomes and clinical or demographic variables. Kaplan-Meier analyses were used to evaluate the cumulative survival rate of the intentionally replanted teeth. RESULTS: The overall cumulative survival rates were 93.0% at 1 year, 76.7% at 5 years, and 56.2% at 10 years. Among the 100 teeth with simple apical periodontitis, the survival rates were 93.0%, 86.7%, and 78.8% at the same time points. In contrast, 57 teeth with CPEL exhibited survival rates of 93.0%, 65.0%, and 36.9%, respectively. The primary postoperative complications that led to extraction were periodontal involvement (51.9%), tooth fracture (18.5%), external root resorption (18.5%), and persistent apical periodontitis (11.1%). The outcomes of teeth with CPEL were significantly affected by the presence of a sinus tract and crown restoration. In contrast, no significant prognostic factors were identified for teeth without periodontal involvement. CONCLUSION: The long-term prognosis of teeth with CPEL is significantly worse than those with simple apical periodontitis. The main reason of extraction was periodontal involvement. Regular periodontal maintenance and appropriate crown restoration may help to improve the prognosis for teeth with CPEL.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis is a persistent disease of the lung interstitium for which there is no efficacious pharmacological therapy. Protodioscin, a steroidal saponin, possesses diverse pharmacological properties; however, its function in pulmonary fibrosis is yet to be established. Hence, in this investigation, it was attempted to figure out the anti-pulmonary fibrosis influences of protodioscin and its pharmacological properties related to oxidative stress. METHODS: A mouse lung fibrosis model was generated using tracheal injections of bleomycin, followed by intraperitoneal injection of different concentrations of protodioscin, and the levels of oxidative stress and fibrosis were detected in the lungs. Multiple fibroblasts were treated with TGF-ß to induce their transition to myofibroblasts. It was attempted to quantify myofibroblast markers' expression levels and reactive oxygen species levels as well as Nrf2 activation after co-incubation of TGF-ß with fibroblasts and different concentrations of protodioscin. The influence of protodioscin on the expression and phosphorylation of p62, which is associated with Nrf2 activation, were detected, and p62 related genes were predicted by STRING database. The effects of Nrf2 inhibitor or silencing of the Nrf2, p62 and NBR1 genes, respectively, on the activation of Nrf2 by protodioscin were examined. The associations between p62, NBR1, and Keap1 in the activation of Nrf2 by protodioscin was demonstrated using a co-IP assay. Nrf2 inhibitor were used when protodioscin was treated in mice with pulmonary fibrosis and lung tissue fibrosis and oxidative stress levels were detected. RESULTS: In vivo, protodioscin decreased the levels of fibrosis markers and oxidative stress markers and activated Nrf2 in mice with pulmonary fibrosis, and these effects were inhibited by Nrf2 inhibitor. In vitro, protodioscin decreased the levels of myofibroblast markers and oxidative stress markers during myofibroblast transition and promoted Nrf2 downstream gene expression, with reversal of these effects after Nrf2, p62 and NBR1 genes were silenced or Nrf2 inhibitors were used, respectively. Protodioscin promoted the binding of NBR1 to p62 and Keap1, thereby reducing Keap1-Nrf2 binding. CONCLUSION: The NBR1-p62-Nrf2 axis is targeted by protodioscin to reduce oxidative stress and inhibit pulmonary fibrosis.

RESUMO

Endosomal single-stranded RNA-sensing Toll-like receptor-7/8 (TLR7/8) plays a pivotal role in inflammation and immune responses and autoimmune diseases. However, the mechanisms underlying the initiation of the TLR7/8-mediated autoimmune signaling remain to be fully elucidated. Here, we demonstrate that miR-574-5p is aberrantly upregulated in tissues of lupus prone mice and in the plasma of lupus patients, with its expression levels correlating with the disease activity. miR-574-5p binds to and activates human hTLR8 or its murine ortholog mTlr7 to elicit a series of MyD88-dependent immune and inflammatory responses. These responses include the overproduction of cytokines and interferons, the activation of STAT1 signaling and B lymphocytes, and the production of autoantigens. In a transgenic mouse model, the induction of miR-574-5p overexpression is associated with increased secretion of antinuclear and anti-dsDNA antibodies, increased IgG and C3 deposit in the kidney, elevated expression of inflammatory genes in the spleen. In lupus-prone mice, lentivirus-mediated silencing of miR-574-5p significantly ameliorates major symptoms associated with lupus and lupus nephritis. Collectively, these results suggest that the miR-574-5p-hTLR8/mTlr7 signaling is an important axis of immune and inflammatory responses, contributing significantly to the development of lupus and lupus nephritis.

RESUMO

Human respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common cause of respiratory infections in infants, young children, and elderly people. However, there are no effective treatments or vaccines available in most countries. In this study, we explored the anti-RSV potential of 2, 4-Di-tert-butylphenol (2, 4-DTBP), a compound derived from Houttuynia cordata Thunb. To overcome the poor solubility of 2, 4-DTBP, we encapsulated it in polymeric micelles and delivered it by inhalation. We found that 2, 4-DTBP-loaded micelles inhibited RSV infection in vitro and improved survival, lung pathology, and viral clearance in RSV-infected mice. Our results suggested that 2, 4-DTBP-loaded micelle is a promising novel therapeutic agent for RSV infection.

RESUMO

Electrolytic hydrogen production via water splitting holds significant promise for the future of the energy revolution. The design of efficient and abundant catalysts, coupled with a comprehensive understanding of the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) mechanism, is of paramount importance. In this study, we propose a strategy to craft an atomically precise cluster catalyst with superior HER performance by cocoupling a Mo2O4 structural unit and a Cu(I) alkynyl cluster into a structured framework. The resulting bimetallic cluster, Mo2Cu17, encapsulates a distinctive structure [Mo2O4Cu17(TC4A)4(PhC≡C)6], comprising a binuclear Mo2O4 subunit and a {Cu17(TC4A)2(PhC≡C)6} cluster, both shielded by thiacalix[4]arene (TC4A) and phenylacetylene (PhC≡CH). Expanding our exploration, we synthesized two homoleptic CuI alkynyl clusters coprotected by the TC4A and PhC≡C- ligands: Cu13 and Cu22. Remarkably, Mo2Cu17 demonstrates superior HER efficiency compared to its counterparts, achieving a current density of 10 mA cm-2 in alkaline solution with an overpotential as low as 120 mV, significantly outperforming Cu13 (178 mV) and Cu22 (214 mV) nanoclusters. DFT calculations illuminate the catalytic mechanism and indicate that the intrinsically higher activity of Mo2Cu17 may be attributed to the synergistic Mo2O4-Cu(I) coupling.

RESUMO

The design of efficient, stable and cost-effective electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction holds substantial significance in water electrolysis, but it remains challenging. Tremella-like nickel-molybdenum bimetal phosphide encapsulated cobalt phosphide (NiMoP/CoP) with hierarchical architectures has been effectively synthesized on nickel foam (NF) via a straightforward hydrothermal followed by low-temperature phosphating method. Based on the unique structural benefits, it significantly increases the number of redox active centers, enhances the electrical conductivity of materials, and diminishes the ion diffusion path lengths, thereby promoting efficient electrolyte penetration and reducing the inherent resistance. The as-obtained NiMoP/CoP/NF electrocatalyst exhibited remarkable catalytic activity with an ultralow overpotential of 38 mV (10 mA cm-2) and low Tafel slope of 83 mV dec-1. The straightforward synthesis process and exceptional electrocatalytic properties of NiMoP/CoP/NF demonstrate great potential for the HER to replace the precious metal catalyst.

RESUMO

To investigate the quality differences between the seeds and husks of Amomum villosum and explore the rationality of using the seeds without husks, this study determined the content of protocatechuic acid, vanillic acid, epicatechin, quercitrin, volatile oil, water extract, and ethanol extract. The 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH), 2,2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)(ABTS), and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities were determined to evaluate the antioxidant activities of seeds and husks. The quality differences between the seeds and husks were assessed through orthogonal partial least squares-discriminant analysis(OPLS-DA) and analytic hierarchy process(AHP) combined with the entropy weight method(EWM). Significant differences(P<0.05) were observed in all 10 indicators between the seeds and husks. The levels of epicatechin, quercetin, and volatile oil were higher in the seeds, whereas those of protocatechuic acid, vanillic acid, water extract, and ethanol extract were higher in the husks. The seeds showed stronger scavenging ability against DPPH and ABTS radicals, while the husks showed a stronger scavenging effect on hydroxyl radicals. OPLS-DA significantly discriminated between the seeds and husks. Furthermore, volatile oil, water extract, DPPH radical scavenging rate, quercitrin, ABTS radical scavenging rate, hydroxyl radical scavenging rate, and vanillic acid were selected as the main differential indicators by variable importance in projection(VIP). Comprehensive scores calculated by AHP combined with EWM indicated that the seeds were superior to husks in terms of overall quality. However, there are still some dominant components and a certain antioxidant effect in the husks. Therefore, it is suggested to using Amomi Fructus with a certain amount of husks or utilizing the husks for other purposes.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: CT and MRI are synergistic in the information provided for neurosurgical planning. While obtaining both types of images lends unique data from each, doing so adds to cost and exposes patients to additional ionizing radiation after MRI has been performed. Cross-modal synthesis of high-resolution CT images from MRI sequences offers an appealing solution. The authors therefore sought to develop a deep learning conditional generative adversarial network (cGAN) which performs this synthesis. METHODS: Preoperative paired CT and contrast-enhanced MR images were collected for patients with meningioma, pituitary tumor, vestibular schwannoma, and cerebrovascular disease. CT and MR images were denoised, field corrected, and coregistered. MR images were fed to a cGAN that exported a "synthetic" CT scan. The accuracy of synthetic CT images was assessed objectively using the quantitative similarity metrics as well as by clinical features such as sella and internal auditory canal (IAC) dimensions and mastoid/clinoid/sphenoid aeration. RESULTS: A total of 92,981 paired CT/MR images obtained in 80 patients were used for training/testing, and 10,068 paired images from 10 patients were used for external validation. Synthetic CT images reconstructed the bony skull base and convexity with relatively high accuracy. Measurements of the sella and IAC showed a median relative error between synthetic CT scans and ground truth images of 6%, with greater variability in IAC reconstruction compared with the sella. Aerations in the mastoid, clinoid, and sphenoid regions were generally captured, although there was heterogeneity in finer air cell septations. Performance varied based on pathology studied, with the highest limitation observed in evaluating meningiomas with intratumoral calcifications or calvarial invasion. CONCLUSIONS: The generation of high-resolution CT scans from MR images through cGAN offers promise for a wide range of applications in cranial and spinal neurosurgery, especially as an adjunct for preoperative evaluation. Optimizing cGAN performance on specific anatomical regions may increase its clinical viability.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: As a common psychological problem among older adults, fear of falling was found to have a wide range prevalence in different studies. However, the global prevalence of it was unknown and a lack of the large sample confirmed its risk factors. OBJECTIVES: To report the global prevalence of fear of falling and to explore its risk factors among older adults for further developing precise interventions to systematically manage FOF. DESIGN: A systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted by PRISMA guidelines. METHODS: Searches were conducted in PubMed, Web of Science, EMBASE, the Cochrane Library and the manual search in August 20, 2022, updated to September 2, 2023. Observational studies published in English were included and two researchers independently screened and extracted the data. Fixed or random effects mode was used to estimate the pooled prevalence of and risk factors for fear of falling. Heterogeneity resources were analyzed by subgroup and sensitivity analysis. Publication bias was assessed through funnel plots, Egger's test and Begg's test. RESULTS: A total of the 153 studies with 200,033 participants from 38 countries worldwide were identified. The global prevalence of fear of falling was 49.60%, ranging from 6.96-90.34%. Subgroup analysis found the estimates pooled prevalence of it was higher in developing countries (53.40%) than in developed countries (46.7%), and higher in patients (52.20%) than in community residents (48.40%). In addition, twenty-eight risk factors were found a significant associations with fear of falling, mainly including demographic characteristics, physical function, chronic diseases and mental problems. CONCLUSION: The global prevalence of FOF was high, especially in developing countries and in patients. Demographic characteristics, Physical function, chronic diseases and mental problems were a significant association with FOF. Policy-makers, health care providers and government officials should comprehensively evaluate these risk factors and formulate precise intervention measures to reduce FOF. TRIAL REGISTRATION: The study was registered in the International Database of Prospectively Registered Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO): CRD42022358031.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Prediction of lymph node metastasis (LNM) is critical for individualized management of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) patients to avoid unnecessary overtreatment as well as undesired under-treatment. Artificial intelligence (AI) trained by thyroid ultrasound (US) may improve prediction performance. METHODS: From September 2017 to December 2018, patients with suspicious PTC from the first medical center of the Chinese PLA general hospital were retrospectively enrolled to pre-train the multi-scale, multi-frame, and dual-direction deep learning (MMD-DL) model. From January 2019 to July 2021, PTC patients from four different centers were prospectively enrolled to fine-tune and independently validate MMD-DL. Its diagnostic performance and auxiliary effect on radiologists were analyzed in terms of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, areas under the ROC curve (AUC), accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity. RESULTS: In total, 488 PTC patients were enrolled in the pre-training cohort, and 218 PTC patients were included for model fine-tuning (n = 109), internal test (n = 39), and external validation (n = 70). Diagnostic performances of MMD-DL achieved AUCs of 0.85 (95% CI: 0.73, 0.97) and 0.81 (95% CI: 0.73, 0.89) in the test and validation cohorts, respectively, and US radiologists significantly improved their average diagnostic accuracy (57% vs. 60%, P = 0.001) and sensitivity (62% vs. 65%, P < 0.001) by using the AI model for assistance. CONCLUSIONS: The AI model using US videos can provide accurate and reproducible prediction of cervical lymph node metastasis in papillary thyroid carcinoma patients preoperatively, and it can be used as an effective assisting tool to improve diagnostic performance of US radiologists. TRIAL REGISTRATION: We registered on the Chinese Clinical Trial Registry website with the number ChiCTR1900025592.

RESUMO

MAPKKs, as one of the main members of the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade pathway, are located in the middle of the cascade and are involved in many physiological processes of plant growth and development, as well as stress tolerance. Previous studies have found that StMAPKK5 is responsive to drought and salt stress. To further investigate the function and regulatory mechanism of StMAPKK5 in potato stress response, potato variety 'Atlantic' was subjected to drought and NaCl treatments, and the expression of the StMAPKK5 gene was detected by qRT-PCR. StMAPKK5 overexpression and RNA interference-mediated StMAPKK5 knockdown potato plants were constructed. The relative water content, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and peroxidase (POD) activities, as well as proline (Pro) and malondialdehyde (MDA) contents of plant leaves, were also assayed under drought and NaCl stress. The StMAPKK5 interacting proteins were identified and validated by yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) and bimolecular fluorescence complementation (BiFC). The results showed that the expression of StMAPKK5 was significantly up-regulated under drought and NaCl stress conditions. The StMAPKK5 protein was localized in the nucleus, cytoplasm, and cell membrane. The expression of StMAPKK5 affected the relative water content, the enzymatic activities of SOD, CAT, and POD, and the proline and MDA contents of potatoes under drought and salt stress conditions. These results suggest that StMAPKK5 plays a significant role in regulating drought and salt tolerance in potato crop. Yeast two-hybrid (Y2H) screening identified four interacting proteins: StMYB19, StZFP8, StPUB-like, and StSKIP19. BiFC confirmed the authenticity of the interactions. These findings suggest that StMAPKK5 is crucial for potato growth, development, and response to adversity.

RESUMO

Background: IgA nephropathy (IgAN) stands as the most prevalent form of glomerulonephritis and ranks among the leading causes of end-stage renal disease worldwide. Regrettably, we continue to grapple with the absence of dependable diagnostic markers and specific therapeutic agents for IgAN. Therefore, this study endeavors to explore novel biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets in IgAN, while also considering their relevance in the context of tumors. Methods: We gathered IgAN datasets from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database. Subsequently, leveraging these datasets, we conducted an array of analyses, encompassing differential gene expression, weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA), machine learning, receiver operator characteristic (ROC) curve analysis, gene expression validation, clinical correlations, and immune infiltration. Finally, we carried out pan-cancer analysis based on hub gene. Results: We obtained 1391 differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in GSE93798 and 783 DGEs in GSE14795, respectively. identifying 69 common genes for further investigation. Subsequently, GMFG was identified the hub gene based on machine learning. In the verification set and the training set, the GMFG was higher in the IgAN group than in the healthy group and all of the GMFG area under the curve (AUC) was more 0.8. In addition, GMFG has a close relationship with the prognosis of malignancies and a range of immune cells. Conclusions: Our study suggests that GMFG could serve as a promising novel biomarker and potential therapeutic target for both IgAN and certain types of tumors.

RESUMO

An artificial nociceptor, as a critical and special bionic receptor, plays a key role in a bioelectronic device that detects stimuli and provides warnings. However, fully exploiting bioelectronic applications remains a major challenge due to the lack of the methods of implementing basic nociceptor functions and nociceptive blockade in a single device. In this work, we developed a Pt/LiSiOx/TiN artificial nociceptor. It had excellent stability under the 104 endurance test with pulse stimuli and exhibited a significant threshold current of 1 mA with 1 V pulse stimuli. Other functions such as relaxation, inadaptation, and sensitization were all realized in a single device. Also, the pain blockade function was first achieved in this nociceptor with over a 25% blocking degree, suggesting a self-protection function. More importantly, an obvious depression was activated by a stimulus over 1.6 V due to the cooperative effects of both lithium ions and oxygen ions in LiSiOx and the dramatic accumulation of Joule heat. The conducting channel ruptured partially under sequential potentiation, thus achieving nociceptive blockade, besides basic functions in one single nociceptor, which was rarely reported. These results provided important guidelines for constructing high-performance memristor-based artificial nociceptors and opened up an alternative approach to the realization of bioelectronic systems for artificial intelligence.

RESUMO

The quantification of green space green plot ratio (GPR) is mostly based on estimation formulas, and the leaf area index (LAI) estimation values in these estimation formulas have not been well verified by measured LAI values, resulting in errors and uncertainties in GPR quantification results. This study aims to address this gap by measuring the LAI of 113 regional plants in Chongqing, China, following a standardized measurement path for digital hemispherical photography (DHP). The results indicate that the optimal relative exposure value (REV) was - 1 under overcast conditions and - 2 under sunny and cloudy conditions. Among the threshold algorithms for hemispherical images, the Intermodes algorithm in ImageJ was the best. The LAI of regional plants is highest in summer, followed by spring and autumn, and lowest in winter. Tree height (h) and crown width (w) are key factors affecting LAI, but the LAI also varies with plant species. Overall, the LAI of evergreen trees is higher than that of deciduous trees. The LAI of evergreen trees and shrubs with a height shorter than 5 m is the largest, and that of deciduous trees and shrubs with a crown width larger than 8 m is the largest. The study further verified that the existing GPR estimation formula exhibited large errors in Chongqing, while there was a strong correlation (R2 = 0.973) between the GPR estimation value and the measured value. A conversion formula was developed to reduce estimation biases, and the corrected formula is capable of estimating GPR values more accurately when actual LAI measurements are insufficient. Overall, this study verifies the significance of measuring localized LAI values, promotes the understanding of LAI suitability for GPR calculations, and provides an empirical formula for GPR estimation in Chongqing, China.

RESUMO

Identifying perceived ageism is a critical step in eliminating ageism. This hybrid concept analysis aims to describe the concept of perceived ageism in health care. In the theoretical phase, a scoping review was conducted. In the field phase, semi-structured interviews were conducted with nine community-dwelling older adults. In the final analytical phase, results from the theoretical phase were integrated with those from the fieldwork phase. The perceived ageism in health care includes four dimensions: self-internalization (self-denial, a sense of unease, and passivity of behavior in seeking health care), interpersonal interaction (perceived negative perceptions, neglected attitudes, and unfair care behaviors), organization system (perceived strangeness caused by unfamiliar technology, unsupportive environment, and inadequate resources), and procedure policy (perceived uniformity of healthcare process and lack of targeted practice policies). Research related to this concept has contributed to developing measurement tools for assessing perceived ageism in healthcare practice and subsequent research.

RESUMO

Van der Waals semiconductors exemplified by two-dimensional transition-metal dichalcogenides have promised next-generation atomically thin optoelectronics. Boosting their interaction with light is vital for practical applications, especially in the quantum regime where ultrastrong coupling is highly demanded but not yet realized. Here we report ultrastrong exciton-plasmon coupling at room temperature in tungsten disulfide (WS2) layers loaded with a random multi-singular plasmonic metasurface deposited on a flexible polymer substrate. Different from seeking perfect metals or high-quality resonators, we create a unique type of metasurface with a dense array of singularities that can support nanometre-sized plasmonic hotspots to which several WS2 excitons coherently interact. The associated normalized coupling strength is 0.12 for monolayer WS2 and can be up to 0.164 for quadrilayers, showcasing the ultrastrong exciton-plasmon coupling that is important for practical optoelectronic devices based on low-dimensional semiconductors.

RESUMO

Microorganisms are essential actors in the biogeochemical cycling of elements within terrestrial ecosystems, with significant influences on soil health, food security, and global climate change. The contribution of microbial anabolism-induced organic compounds is a non-negligible factor in the processes associated with soil carbon (C) storage and organic matter preservation. In recent years, the conceptual framework of soil microbial carbon pump (MCP), with a focus on microbial metabolism and necromass generation process, has gained widespread attention. It primarily describes the processes of soil organic C formation and stabilization driven by the metabolic activities of soil heterotrophic microorganisms, representing an important mechanism and a focal point in current research on terrestrial C sequestration. Here, we reviewed the progress in this field and introduced the soil MCP conceptual framework 2.0, which expands upon the existing MCP model by incorporating autotrophic microbial pathway for C sequestration and integrating the concept of soil mineral C pump. These advancements aimed to enrich and refine our understanding of microbial-mediated terrestrial ecosystem C cycling and sequestration mechanisms. This refined framework would provide theoretical support for achieving China's "dual carbon" goals.
